ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) is a major social welfare scheme implemented by the Government of India aimed at comprehensive health and nutritional development of children, pregnant and lactating mothers. Launched in 1975, this scheme operates under the Ministry of Women and Child Development.

The main objectives of the ICDS project are to improve the nutrition and health of children aged 0 to 6 years, ensure health care for pregnant and lactating mothers, reduce infant mortality and malnutrition, provide pre-school education, and provide health and nutrition awareness to parents.

2. Pre-school education - Basic learning activities are conducted in Anganwadis for children aged 3 to 6 years.

3. Immunization - Vaccination of children and mothers against various diseases.

4. Health check-up - Monitoring the growth and health status of children.

5. Referral Services - Refers people with serious health problems to hospitals.

6. Nutrition and Health Awareness- Mothers are trained on hygiene, nutrition, and child care.

Anganwadis are the main operational centers of the ICDS scheme. Anganwadis are village-level child development centers operating as part of the ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services) scheme in India. The main objective of Anganwadis is to improve the health, nutritional status and education of children, pregnant and lactating mothers.
